// EXECUTIVE BRIEFING
[ REG-2019-HYD-019 ]

The Darbang Myagdi Hydro-Electric Project (DMHEP) is a 25 MW run-of-river facility developed by Dhaulagiri Kalika Hydro Ltd. in Malika Rural Municipality, Myagdi District, Gandaki Province. Feeding directly into the national grid via the Dandakhet Substation, it generates an estimated 150.08 GWh of clean energy annually.

// DETAILED SCOPE & ENGINEERING NARRATIVE

The Darbang Myagdi Hydro-Electric Project (DMHEP) represents a vital clean energy development in western Nepal by Dhaulagiri Kalika Hydro Ltd.

The project harnesses the perennial, snow-fed flow of the Myagdi River, originating from the Dhaulagiri, Churen, and Gurja Himal ranges. The water conveyance system begins with a 37 m high concrete gravity weir, incorporating twin under-sluices and four side intakes, followed by two 115 m long settling basins designed for effective sediment management.

From the settling basins, water is conveyed through a 3,030 m long inverted D-shaped headrace tunnel with a 4.6 m diameter. The system further comprises a 38 m vertical surge shaft, a 55 m drop shaft, and a 1,250 m long penstock pipe with a 4.0 m diameter. These components deliver water to the 30 m × 50 m surface powerhouse, where electricity is generated.

The power generated by the project will be evacuated to the national grid through a 132 kV transmission line connected to the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) 132/33 kV Dandakhet Substation, located approximately 7.5 km upstream. The integrated design efficiently links the river diversion, water conveyance, power generation, and grid evacuation systems into a single hydropower scheme.
